6649d38c96 Adding per container stats for CRI runtimes
This commit aims to collect per container log stats. The
change was proposed as a part of #55905. The change includes
change of the log path from /var/pod/<pod uid>/containername_attempt.log
to /var/pod/<pod uid>/containername/containername_attempt.log.
The logs are collected by reusing volume package to collect
metrics from the log path.

Improve error returned when fetching container logs during pod termination

**What this PR does / why we need it**:

This change better handles fetching of logs when a container is in a crash loop backoff state. In cases where it is unable to fetch the logs, it gives a helpful error message back to a user who has requested logs of a container from a terminated pod. Rather than attempting to get logs for a container using an empty container ID, it returns a useful error message.

In cases where the container runtime gets an error, log the error but don't leak it back through the API to the user.

**Which issue(s) this PR fixes**:
Fixes #59296

e10042d22f Increment CRI version from v1alpha1 to v1alpha2
This also incorporates the version string into the package name so
that incompatibile versions will fail to connect.

Arbitrary choices:
- The proto3 package name is runtime.v1alpha2. The proto compiler
  normally translates this to a go package of "runtime_v1alpha2", but
  I renamed it to "v1alpha2" for consistency with existing packages.
- kubelet/apis/cri is used as "internalapi". I left it alone and put the
  public "runtimeapi" in kubelet/apis/cri/runtime.

Add annotations to the device plugin API

**What this PR does / why we need it**:

**Which issue(s) this PR fixes** : Related to #56649 but does not fix it

This adds the ability for the device plugins to annotate containers.
Product wise, this allows the NVIDIA device plugin to support CRI-O (which allows hooks through container annotations).

**Special notes for your reviewer**:
/area hw-accelerators
/cc @vishh @jiayingz @vikaschoudhary16

I'm wondering if it would make sense to fire a blank call to `newContainerAnnotations` at the start of the deviceplugin to get Annotations that are forbidden.
Current behavior is that any Annotations that conflicts with Kubelet will be overwritten by Kubelet.

Merge pull request #58229 from sjenning/exempt-sandbox-image

kubelet: imagegc: exempt sandbox image

The image GC logic currently does not consider the sandbox image to be in-use by pods, since it isn't explicitly listed in the pod spec. However, it is trivially in-use if there are any pods running on the node.

This change adds logic to exempt the sandbox image from GC by always considering it as in-use.

**Reviewer Note**
I am changing `(m *kubeGenericRuntimeManager) GetImageRef` to return the ID always rather than the first tag if it exists. Seemed ok to me. Makes some error messages a little less readable in that the ID will be printed and not the tag. Just wanted to see what reviewers think about this.

kubelet: include runtime error in event on CreatePodSandbox failure

Include the error from the runtime in the event message when CreatePodSandbox fails. The sandbox creation can fail for many reasons and including the error makes the situation easier to debug.

The event for failed PodSandboxStatus includes this information so there is already precedent for doing this.

Add partial CRI container log support.

For https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/issues/44976.

New CRI log format:
```
TIMESTAMP STREAM TAG CONTENT
2016-10-06T00:17:09.669794202Z stdout P log content 1
2016-10-06T00:17:09.669794203Z stdout P log content 2
```

Although unlikely, if in the future we need more metadata in each line, we could extend TAG into multiple tags splitted by `:`.

pkg/api: extract Scheme/Registry/Codecs into pkg/api/legacyscheme

This serves as

- a preparation for the pkg/api->pkg/apis/core move
- and makes the dependency to the scheme explicit when vizualizing
  left depenncies.

The later helps with our our efforts to split up the monolithic repo
into self-contained sub-repos, e.g. for kubectl, controller-manager
and kube-apiserver in the future.

Wait for container cleanup before deletion

We should wait to delete pod API objects until the pod's containers have been cleaned up. See issue: #50268 for background.

This changes the kubelet container gc, which deletes containers belonging to pods considered "deleted".
It adds two conditions under which a pod is considered "deleted", allowing containers to be deleted:
Pods where deletionTimestamp is set, and containers are not running
Pods that are evicted

This PR also changes the function PodResourcesAreReclaimed by making it return false if containers still exist.
The eviction manager will wait for containers of previous evicted pod to be deleted before evicting another pod.
The status manager will wait for containers to be deleted before removing the pod API object.

Mount propagation in kubelet

Together with #45724 it implements mount propagation as proposed in https://github.com/kubernetes/community/pull/659

There is:

- New alpha annotation that allows user to explicitly set propagation mode for each `VolumeMount` in pod containers (to be replaced with real `VolumeMount.Propagation` field during beta) + validation + tests. "Private" is the default one (= no change to existing pods).

  I know about proposal for real API fields for alpha feature in https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wuoSqHkeT51mQQ7dIFhUKrdi3-1wbKrNWeIL4cKb9zU/edit, but it seems it's not implemented yet. It would save me quite lot of code and ugly annotation.

- Updated CRI API to transport chosen propagation to Docker.

- New `kubelet --experimental-mount-propagation` option to enable the previous bullet without modifying types.go (worked around with changing `KubeletDeps`... not nice, but it's better than adding a parameter to `NewMainKubelet` and removing it in the next release...)

```release-note
kubelet has alpha support for mount propagation. It is disabled by default and it is there for testing only. This feature may be redesigned or even removed in a future release.
Bugfix: Use local JSON log buffer in parseDockerJSONLog.
**What this PR does / why we need it**:
The issue described in #47800 is due to a race condition in `ReadLogs`: Because the JSON log buffer (`dockerJSONLog`) is package-scoped, any two goroutines modifying the buffer could race and overwrite the other's changes. In particular, one goroutine could unmarshal a JSON log line into the buffer, then another goroutine could `Reset()` the buffer, and the resulting `Stream` would be empty (`""`). This empty `Stream` is caught in a `case` block and raises an `unexpected stream type` error.
This PR creates a new buffer for each execution of `parseDockerJSONLog`, so each goroutine is guaranteed to have a local instance of the buffer.
**Which issue this PR fixes**: fixes #47800
**Release note**:
```release-note
Fixed an issue (#47800) where `kubectl logs -f` failed with `unexpected stream type ""`.

Automatic merge from submit-queue (batch tested with PRs 49488, 50407, 46105, 50456, 50258)

Add UpdateContainerResources method to CRI

This is first step toward support for opinionated cpu pinning for certain guaranteed pods.

In order to do this, the kubelet needs to be able to dynamically update the cpuset at the container level, which is managed by the container runtime. Thus the kubelet needs a method to communicate over the CRI so the runtime can then modify the container cgroup.

This is used in the situation where a core is added or removed from the shared pool to become a exclusive core for a new G pod. The cpuset for all containers in the shared pool will need to be updated to add or remove that core.

Opening this up now so we can start discussion. The need for a change to the CRI might be unexpected.

Basically the issue is that the err and msg are reversed in `startContainer()`. The msg is short and the err is long. It should be the other way around.

This PR changes `startContainer()` to return a short error that becomes the Reason and the extracted gPRC error description that becomes the Message.

3fdf6c3d14 Merge pull request #45896 from dashpole/disk_pressure_reclaim
Automatic merge from submit-queue

Delete all dead containers and sandboxes when under disk pressure.

This PR modifies the eviction manager to add dead container and sandbox garbage collection as a resource reclaim function for disk. It also modifies the container GC logic to allow pods that are terminated, but not deleted to be removed.

It still does not delete containers that are less than the minGcAge. This should prevent nodes from entering a permanently bad state if the entire disk is occupied by pods that are terminated (in the state failed, or succeeded), but not deleted.

There are two improvements we should consider making in the future:

- Track the disk space and inodes reclaimed by deleting containers. We currently do not track this, and it prevents us from determining if deleting containers resolves disk pressure. So we may still evict a pod even if we are able to free disk space by deleting dead containers.
- Once we can track disk space and inodes reclaimed, we should consider only deleting the containers we need to in order to relieve disk pressure. This should help avoid a scenario where we try and delete a massive number of containers all at once, and overwhelm the runtime.

Fix AssertCalls usage for kubelet fake runtimes unit tests

Despite its name, AssertCalls() does not assert anything. It returns an error that should be checked. This was causing false negatives for a handful of unit tests, which are also fixed here.

Tests for the image manager needed to be rearranged in order to accommodate a potentially different sequence of calls each tick because the image puller changes behavior based on prior errors.

Add 'privileged' to sandbox to indicate if any container might be privileged in it, document privileged

Right now, the privileged flag is this magic thing which does "whatever Docker does". This documents it to make it a little less magic.

In addition, due to how rkt uses `systemd-nspawn` as an outer layer of isolation in creating the sandbox, it's helpful to know beforehand whether the pod will be privileged so additional security options can be applied earlier / applied at all.

I suspect the same indication will be useful for userns since userns should also occur at the pod layer, but it's possible that will be a separate/additional field.

b600533794 Merge pull request #36423 from Random-Liu/support-root-nobody
Automatic merge from submit-queue

CRI: Support string user name.

https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/pull/33239 and https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/pull/34811 combined together broke the cri e2e test. https://k8s-testgrid.appspot.com/google-gce#gci-gce-cri

The reason is that:
1) In dockershim and dockertools, we assume that `Image.Config.User` should be an integer. However, sometimes when user build the image with `USER nobody:nobody` or `USER root:root`, the field will become `nobody:nobody` and `root:root`. This makes dockershim to always return error.
2) The new kube-dns-autoscaler image is using `USER nobody:nobody`. (See https://github.com/kubernetes-incubator/cluster-proportional-autoscaler/blob/master/Dockerfile.in#L21)

This doesn't break the normal e2e test, because in dockertools [we only inspect image uid if `RunAsNonRoot` is set](https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/blob/master/pkg/kubelet/dockertools/docker_manager.go#L2333-L2338), which is just a coincidence. However, in kuberuntime, [we always inspect image uid first](https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/blob/master/pkg/kubelet/kuberuntime/kuberuntime_container.go#L141).

This PR adds literal `root` and `nobody` support. One problem is that `nobody` is not quite the same in different OS distros. Usually it should be `65534`, but some os distro doesn't follow that. For example, Fedora is using `99`. (See https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/Q5GCKZ7Q7PAUQW66EV7IBJGSRJWYXBBH/?sort=date)

Possible solution:
* Option 1: ~~Just use `65534`. This is fine because currently we only need to know whether the user is root or not.~~ Actually, we need to pass the user id to runtime when creating a container.
* Option 2: Return the uid as string in CRI, and let kuberuntime handle the string directly.

This PR is using option 1.

Add timeout argument to ExecInContainer

<!-- Thanks for sending a pull request! Here are some tips for you:
1. If this is your first time, read our contributor guidelines https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md and developer guide https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/blob/master/docs/devel/development.md
2. If you want *faster* PR reviews, read how: https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/blob/master/docs/devel/faster_reviews.md
3. Follow the instructions for writing a release note: https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/blob/master/docs/devel/pull-requests.md#release-notes
-->

**What this PR does / why we need it**: This is related to https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/issues/26895. It brings a timeout to the signature of `ExecInContainer` so that we can take timeouts into account in the future. Unlike my first attempt in https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/pull/27956, it doesn't immediately observe the timeout, because it is impossible to do it with the current state of the Docker Remote API (the default exec handler implementation).

**Special notes for your reviewer**: This shares commits with https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/pull/27956, but without some of them that have more controversial implications (actually supporting the timeouts). The original PR shall be closed in the current state to preserve the history (instead of dropping commits in that PR).

This allows us to interrupt/kill the executed command if it exceeds the
timeout (not implemented by this commit).

Set timeout in Exec probes. HTTPGet and TCPSocket probes respect the
timeout, while Exec probes used to ignore it.

Add e2e test for exec probe with timeout. However, the test is skipped
while the default exec handler doesn't support timeouts.

CRI: Add Status into CRI.

For https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/issues/35701.
Fixes https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/issues/35701.

This PR added a `Status` call in CRI, and the `RuntimeStatus` is defined as following:

``` protobuf
message RuntimeCondition {
    // Type of runtime condition.
    optional string type = 1;
    // Status of the condition, one of true/false.
    optional bool status = 2;
    // Brief reason for the condition's last transition.
    optional string reason = 3;
    // Human readable message indicating details about last transition.
    optional string message = 4;
}
message RuntimeStatus {
    // Conditions is an array of current observed runtime conditions.
    repeated RuntimeCondition conditions = 1;
}
```

Currently, only `conditions` is included in `RuntimeStatus`, and the definition is almost the same with `NodeCondition` and `PodCondition` in K8s api.

@yujuhong @feiskyer @bprashanth If this makes sense, I'll send a follow up PR to let dockershim return `RuntimeStatus` and let kubelet make use of it.
@yifan-gu @euank Does this make sense to rkt?

Separate Direct and Indirect streaming paths, implement indirect path for CRI

This PR refactors the `pkg/kubelet/container.Runtime` interface to remove the `ExecInContainer`, `PortForward` and `AttachContainer` methods. Instead, those methods are part of the `DirectStreamingRuntime` interface which all "legacy" runtimes implement. I also added an `IndirectStreamingRuntime` which handles the redirect path and is implemented by CRI runtimes. To control the size of this PR, I did not fully setup the indirect streaming path for the dockershim, so I left legacy path behind.

Most of this PR is moving & renaming associated with the refactoring. To understand the functional changes, I suggest tracing the code from `getExec` in `pkg/kubelet/server/server.go`, which calls `GetExec` in `pkg/kubelet/kubelet_pods.go` to determine whether to follow the direct or indirect path.

CRI: Add kuberuntime container logs

Based on https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/pull/34858.

The first 2 commits are from #34858. And the last 2 commits are new.

This PR added kuberuntime container logs support and add unit test for it.

I've tested all the functions manually, and I'll send another PR to write a node e2e test for container log.

**_Notice: current implementation doesn't support log rotation**_, which means that:
- It will not retrieve logs in rotated log file.
- If log rotation happens when following the log:
  - If the rotation is using create mode, we'll still follow the old file.
  - If the rotation is using copytruncate, we'll be reading at the original position and get nothing.

To solve these issues, kubelet needs to rotate the log itself, or at least kubelet should be able to control the the behavior of log rotator. These are doable but out of the scope of 1.5 and will be addressed in future release.

Allow kuberuntime to get network namespace for not ready sandboxes

Kubelet calls TearDownPod to clean up the network resources for a pod sandbox.
TearDownPod relies on GetNetNS to retrieve network namespace, and the current
